Macau's government collected $44.79 billion ($5.57 billion) in fiscal revenues from taxes on games in the first six months of 2024, the latest data released by the Macau Financial Services Bureau on Monday showed.
So far this year, the total tax collection has increased by 67.2% year-over-year.
In June of this year alone, the government collected about 7.78 billion in gaming taxes.
Taxes from gaming brought in 85.5% of Macau's government's total revenue in the first half of 2024, with the latter amounting to nearly MOP52.41 billion.
Under Macau's 10-year gaming subsidy scheme, which took effect in January last year, the effective tax on casino gross game income (GGR) is 40%.
Tax collection figures for certain calendar periods and urban casino GGRs for such periods are not directly comparable for a number of reasons. This usually includes the fact that there is a delay between when the GGR is recorded in Macau casino operations and when the Macau government registers it as having paid taxes.
According to the government's 2024 budget plan, game tax revenue is expected to reach nearly MOP 83.61 billion this year. Revenue in the first six months of the year represents 53.6% of that figure.
Macau authorities collected MOP652.6 billion in revenue from gaming taxes for all of 2023, achieving a surplus of 28.3% from last year's budgeted gaming tax revenue.
